Packaging and Wheel Assembly Must Be Improved
I ordered this motor to replace our 20+ year old SS1 motor which was leaking oil and possibly overheating causing our oil furnace to not fire once every few days. Pros: - Motor comes with wheel assembly, instead of needing to purchase separately - Instructions are pretty good Cons: - Packaging is inadequate to prevent wheel from being bent out of round/true during shipment - Wheel seems made of an even thinner gauge galvanized sheet steel (or aluminum) than the original --- The installation was pretty straightforward. Although it did take me about an hour to install it the first time as I needed to repeatedly gather tools and vacuum up rust/soot. When I fired up the furnace, this motor was very loud with a awful metal tapping sound. I immediately shut the furnace down and removed the 15 or so nuts and 2 wires to pull the motor and take a look. When spinning the wheel with my hands, it was apparent that the wheel wasn't true! It wobbled pretty badly. I was convinced this was the source of the sound. The bent wheel was adding massive amounts of additional vibration to the ducting, motor housing, and joists. I was able to repeatedly bend the wheel with my palms and spin/check it until the wobble was almost gone. Reinstalled the motor a second time and the awful sound was gone. The motor isn't much quieter then the old one it replaced. To the manufacturer: If the packaging could be improved to keep the motor from moving in the box during shipment, then it may have saved me the aggravation of having to install this motor two times! Maybe the wheel should be boxed separately and shipped that way? Also, the really thin wheel should be constructed of higher gauge metal to prevent deformation. The wheel should also be checked during QA/QC for balance and adjusted accordingly. Bonus points if you can include a $1 allen wrench to remove wheel assembly from the motor shaft.

Easy Install and Works Like a Charm
My original side shot motor and fan assembly started making a loud howling sound and needed replacing. It had served me problem free for 22 years so not sure why some of these reviews call it junk. A good many of those years it ventilated a furnace that serviced a family of 6 with hot water and heat, so it got some heavy use. We are empty nesters now. I had an HVAC contractor quote me in the range of $1200 - $1500 to replace it. Seemed a bit steep to me so I went to my trusty friend amazon.com and found this replacement. It took about a half hour to install and works like a charm. Install was a piece of cake and I saved $1000. Amazon has saved me thousands of dollars on do it yourself tasks because it seems there is nothing you can't find here. I thought for sure I would have a tough time finding a replacement part for this 22 year old power ventilator. Amazon is awesome.

Very Satisfied
The SS1 assembly was a perfect replacement fit for the bolt-ups and the two wires. Replacement took about 15 minutes. Very quite unit. I couldn't tell it was running until I put my hand on the motor to feel it spinning. My old unit was 18 years old and got very noisy. It rattled 1/2 of the house. I am extremely satisfied with the new unit after one month of operation. I hope it last!

I only needed the tuna can with the vertical slits in it. As nobody sold anything that would fit the perfectly good motor that I already had bolted to my vent I had to order the whole thing. I couldn't order through Amazon.ca so I paid the import duty on top of the hefty shipping charge. After delivery and duty it came to just shy of C$600.. It took about 20 minutes to switch out, a few nuts and two spade connectors, and it works. It's just slightly louder than a canteen's worth of cutlery working it's way through a MiG jet intake, which is a marked improvement on the one it replaced so that's something.. Another reviewer remarked on the futility of buying just the impeller head as it would be near impossible to balance it when fitting it to an existing motor. This should not be a concern, the motor impeller assembly as supplied is perfectly balanced by the head of clown car wheel installation. You could not possibly make a worse job. All is not lost though. Due to the flimsy construction of the head it will warp and balance itself soon enough. All in all an expensive, ultimately noisy but painless process.. It did turn up two days early though.. EDIT: Just looked and the impeller head is available at the moment, do yourself a favour and don't waste your money on the whole thing, get the impeller alone and fit it. You couldn't do a worse job than the factory does...

Arrived quick and saved the day in place of my original motor that had mysteriously died after sitting unused for a summer. New motor is super quiet as well which was well appreciated.
