Actually Works

I've used this for years and it actually improves mood and wakefullness. Apparently has something to do with optic nerve running through/near pituitary gland and that regulating Circadian rhythm. .

No steady on..

I am sure this works as described, but I dislike that there is no steady on mode. You can set the unit to 5-30 minutes. When it turns off you have to turn it back on, but a big deal to some but it’s annoying to me.

wonderful lamp, and it actually work!

I think this is a great product, I live in the PNW and it rains pretty much everyday (or at least it feels like that), and people seriously gets the rainy day blues ('cause there's no sun!!!). I have this set up on my desk, and I have it on when I study, it is really neat because it is pretty much the size of an iPad and does not take up much space, on the side there are controls to turn the light on/off, set the timer, and switch between white/blue light; I normally have this set at the 30min mark and just turn it back on once the time is up (I like it on, it makes me feel all bright and stuff). I didnt have this light last year and the rainy season was miserable, I was pretty much depressed the entire time from oct-june, however, since ive gotten this lamp and have been using it, I havent felt depressed, even though i have pretty much the same level if not more stress going on in my life. A little side note, I had started growing a mini table top basil plant that instructed to have the plant sit in direct sunlight when I first bought this light, and since we've hit rainy season, there was no sun, so I just sat it on my desk in front of this happy lamp, and guess what! it sprouted! It's super awesome!

Feel less SAD with one of these lamps

A friend and I were discussing the gloominess of a Michigan winter. We decided to try these 'happy lamps'. He bought a different model from Amazon (which he loves), and I bought this one. We compare notes with each other on our respective purchases. We're both happy to have bought them, and to be using them. It's not a cure-all for Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), but does seem to take the edge off. It sits off to the edge of my desk while I'm working, and that seems to work. No Ultraviolet, so it's not for sun tanning. Just a way to feel a little more chipper during the hazy days of winter.

Why choose one color light over another when you can have both at a great price!!

I couldn't see spending almost two hundred dollars on a little blue light from another company, and I wasn't sure if white light or blue light would benefit me more-so finding this light was perfect! I had researched the therapeutic benefits of white lights and found that 10000 lux was essential and that blue light therapy was just as beneficial as the white. The size of this unit is about the size of a tablet with the light surface being 5.5"x8" tall-not too big and definitely not too small! The 3 brightness levels are a plus and I love that I can choose white or blue light. My eyes prefer the blue light. The four stage timer is really convenient too. It's really easy to use-power button, up & down brightness level button, timer button, and light choice button. I have noticed that my SAD is not as bad this year too, I'm not as moody or depressed. I would highly recommend this (and I have) to anyone who is looking to purchase a full spectrum light and at a great price to boot!!

Company stands by their product and made good with a unit that stopped working!

Originally gave this product a one star rating when it died after two months, then the company stepped up and I had a replacement in a flash. Love when companies actually care about their customers. I give this company a 10 star for excellent customer service! First Review: Got this for my husband and he was using it daily for 10 minutes. He was enjoying using it. Just stopped working yesterday, Nov 5, purchased it Sept 19th. Really disappointed. It looked really nice and seemed to help, but stopped working after such a short time. Nov 6: I found contact info for Guardian Technologies and I'm waiting to hear if they'll refund or replace. (support@guardiantechnologies.com or 1.866.603.5900 for others with faulty product). Nov 9 update: Wow, fantastic customer service. I mailed the light back by UPS, (they paid for label cost,) and today I already received a replacement. I just used it on the five minute timer and it's working great so far. Happy to change my rating from a one to a five!

Good except the timer

This is a good light - small and light (=easy to move around) but very bright. However, the timer function made me take away 1.5 stars - it's absolutely ridiculous that there's no continuous mode and that 30min is the max! Especially that once it turns itself off the brightness level and the timer go back to the default lowest values so you have to set it all up again - too much button pushing for my liking! And the remaining .5 star goes for the slight yet audible buzzing sound the light makes. You get used to it after a while but it is a bit irritating. All in all I wouldn't buy it again.

Bright and convenient.

Incredibly bright on its highest (white light) setting. You can dim or increase brightness with a side button. It works with an electric plug. I also like the lightness and compact size (like an ipad) and the timer for 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes. Also has a "blue sky" setting. I am sure it will prove very useful in the dark, endless Canadian winter when we don't see the sun for weeks.

Effective treatment option for me

I purchased this light to alleviate some season affective disorder (SAD) symptoms in the winter, as well as to make it easier to get up in the morning, I've been using this light for about 3 months now. The light doesn't produce immediate results, but rather I saw them slowly after 2-4 weeks of using it. It's very easy to use - I use it for about 30 minutes every morning while I'm having coffee. I think it's important to use this every day at around the same time to produce the desired results. The build quality of the light is good, and the fact that it's LED based means there's never any bulbs to replace like a lot of the fluorescent options. The features on the light are great - including the white/blue light and intensity adjustments. The timer also comes in handy (with increments for 5, 10, 15 and 30 minutes) so you can ensure you're getting the correct 'dose' of light. I can say overall that this has significantly improved my symptoms which was the reason I bought this. I wake up the same time every day and overall feel much better in the morning. I would highly recommend this as an option to try, but it may not work for everyone. In my case, it's much better than the prescription medications I've tried in the past as it has no side effects and produces the desired results.

Is this actually 10,000 Lux?

I wrote a large review that I somehow erased apologizing for my apprehensive review of this product. So in short. This product does produce enough lux to impact your circadian clock based on several metered readings. I was really looking for a product to do away with the seasonal depression that much affects Canadians. When I received this product I tested it and it wasn't coming up with the right amount of locks at 7.5 k Lux. After further testing I did see that it was producing up to 20K Lux so until I find any contrary readings this product should do well to help fight seasonal depression.

Perfect except for a humming noise

Excellent lamp. I've bought a second one because it's a solid lamp. -It gets very bright and has 3 levels of brightness. 10,000 lux at 7". If you don't want to keep the lamp that close, you can just have a longer session to get the same effects. -I can attest that using this lamp improves my alertness, circadian rhythm and mood after doing 1 hour sessions each day. -Can switch between blue/white with the press of a button. The blue is not overly blue and gives a softer glow if you want something easier on the eyes -The timer works perfectly and shuts off on its own after the specified time. This helps to easily keep track of if I've put in a full 30 minute session -Has a robust stand that will not easily break, unlike the flimsy stands on most other therapy lamps -The size is just right. Neither too big or small The main con is that the light produces a slight humming noise. I've been using these lamps for years and the noise doesn't bother me, but I could imagine it could bother some.
