A Wonderful Deterrent

With this chain and lock, I am confident that my bike will not get stolen. It is heavy, so I wouldn’t take it mountain biking or on long trips. However, it is great for short errands. It’s too big for my small bike bags, so for a quick errand around town, I don’t mind taking it in my backpack. The peace of mind after parking my bike makes it worth it. But the best and by far the most important use for me for this chain/lock is to secure my bike at home when I am away on a long trip. If a thief knows you’re not home, he may take more aggressive measures to try and steal the bike than he would if it were outside and in the open for any potential bystanders to witness. But when he sees this heavy duty chain and lock wrapped around a beam that holds up the garage ceiling - which is the floor of a large loft above that is loaded with heavy items - he would most likely conclude that it is not worth taking the risk to try and steal this bike. It would just take too much time, as well as noise, to try and cut this heavy duty lock/chain; and it would be extremely risky to try and cut the support beam that holds up the garage loft. This striking, heavy duty chain/lock serves as a wonderful deterrent which would discourage almost any would-be thief (most are amateurs in a hurry), and has therefore given me genuine peace of mind when I am separated from my bike. It’s worth every penny!

As Good as Chaining a Guard Dog to Your Bike

Initially I was on the fence about ordering this lock. While it had high reviews for protection the weight of the lock seemed to be holding a lot of people back. Eventually security overrode comfort, and I bought it. I would recommend this lock for anyone with a bicycle they desperately want to keep. First off, just the look of the Kryptonite 1210 is enough to deter any wandering bike thieves. The picture doesn't do the size of the links justice: they're MASSIVE, as long as my middle finger and twice as thick. The chain is plenty long enough to wrap neatly around your bike and whatever you're securing it to (unless you're attaching it to a telephone pole, and personally I get nervous putting my bike that close to the street). It can be a bit of a hassle to secure purely because of the weight, but once you have it in place NO ONE is taking off with your bike. Carrying it over your shoulder can become very painful on longer rides, so I highly suggest investing in a rear rack and cargo net (and not JUST for carrying the chain; they're excellent for grocery runs too). My lock is always secured on my rear rack for when I leave the house and not once has it slipped and fouled me up. People have been saying that the keys, with their soft metal, are easy to ruin in the locks. I haven't had this problem, though I can see how someone in a hurry might have trouble locking/unlocking their bike easily. The key has to go in straight, and if you wiggle it around you're going to make any trouble you're having worse. Not once have I had to force it, but it is brand new. Maybe over time it'll become more difficult. Just focus on what you're doing and you shouldn't have problems. Overall, for $70, this is a damn good way to protect your bike. I'd rather buy this monster and rest easy knowing my bike is protected than buy a lower-end lock and stress that my baby won't be there when I go back to it.

3 successful theft preventions, that I know about. Price and weight are worth the peace of mind.

The weight of the chain is no joke but it does get easier over time. This is my second time buying this lock ONLY because I left the chain locked at a construction site (for 2 days, a dumb move) while I took my bike elsewhere and they cut through it with something that looked like a torch, after cutters didn't work. Clearly only heavy duty tools that no casual thieves carry, will be able to defeat this lock. For 5 years, this has withstood secluded areas without cameras, high theft areas, and all manner of spontaneous grabby scumbags. As of 11/6/2020, a passerby grabbed my bike off my patio at 2am, without seeing the chain locked to the saddle. He didn't make it 3 feet trying to ride it, the chain tangled in the pedals, so he tossed the bike and I lost him as he ran away on foot. Not even locked to an anchor, THIS LOCK WORKS.

Beastly!!!

This thing is a beast! I've had it for a few months (almost a year now, I guess), and its been a great help... I've even had a few local dirtbags eyeballing it as I lock up my bike, like "Whoa, dude... I guess I'm not stealing HIS bike." It's great for one or two bikes, but won't stretch far enough for many more... As a bonus, it's also the perfect size for me to wear as a belt as I ride short distances. It's a bit large/clunky to attach to my bike, but it is possible... One of the keys broke already, which is annoying... It came with two extra (one of which has a light on it), so it's no biggie. I even used the lock portion to secure up my garage door the other day before I went on a long trip. This thing is versatile as all can be... BUY ONE!!! The 10% rule is definitely a good benchmark... ***For every $$$ you spent on your bike (and every $$ you'd spend replacing it, and/or taking a taxi home the day it's stolen), spend 10% of that on your lock*** My bike isn't really worth all that much, but the thought of some A-hole riding away on my bike with a smile on his face was too much for me to bear.

Locked Down

Right now I use the chain for when I go on trips into London for added security and it has not let me down. Pros: heavy duty and well made, sold secure gold Cons: it is very heavy Yes the chain is heavy, but it is a chain so you get what you pay for, I personally wear it around my waist or coiled on the top tube of my bike. The lock that comes with it is nice and solid and I use it at uni outside of London with just a small kryptonite cable which does the trick, but for when I am in London both of them are on my bike and I have good piece of mind that i will be there when I return.

Heavy duty chain

Bought this for my son who had his bike stolen. It was secured by a bike cable lock which was an expensive one, they just snapped it in a few seconds. This chain and lock are quite heavy but I'm confident they won't be snapping this unless they come back with an angle grinder. Expensive but but well worth the money.

Good substantial lock...Quality throughout. So why Four? Because it's BITCH heavy. Forget lumping this mother anywhere, unless you're a maxed out Tough Mudder/RMC/ Triathlete kinda dude who needs extra baggage aboard to facilitate further and fuller upper body development! Much more a weapon to nail down gear in your garage...or unless of course, 'they' don't mind you leaving it permanently shackled to the shed/railings where you intend to leave your horse. God knows what the full-on yella peril must weigh....but...no-one's gonna nick your Mare with an artic' truck swinging off it...to be fair!

Peace of mind, guaranteed

I bought this to use with my bicycle when I take it to university. Overkill? Perhaps, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. After several months of hauling it in my backpack (along with laptop, books, toolkits, and more!), I decided to start leaving it locked up at university to save me some back trouble later in life. This is a rather heavy lock (I would weigh it if it was at home with me), and actually weighs more than my bike itself! As for security, it's great. No one is getting through this without extreme difficulty. I only say that because any lock can be broken given enough time and patience; I'd be more worried about a potential thief destroying/stealing what the bike is actually locked to, it'd probably be easier. If you're going to be using this lock with a bicycle that has quick release wheels like mine, I'd advise you purchase the lock alongside a cable, such as theKryptonite Kryptoflex 7 ft Cable Lock (10 mm x 213 cm) , which you can snake through your wheels and lock up to this chain. You get 3 keys with this lock: one main key that has a blue LED inside (useful for seeing the lock in the dark, but I've not had to use it yet, personally) and 2 spares. If you do buy, remember to register your keys with Kryptonite should they get lost or stolen (they have numbers on them). All in all, very happy with the lock. I'd gladly leave my bike all day at uni without fear of it going walkies... well, ridies.

Very heavy duty, even the disc lock is weighty, used in my home only so just what I wanted
