Not bad for the money.

I was looking for something to use to turn over some bare areas in my yard so I could plant some grass seed. After reading the reviews on this and considering there isn't much more out there like it I decided to go ahead and order it. When I received it, the blade was bent at the hub. I had to remove it and used a hammer to flatten it out. Not a big deal but could have been packed better. I tried it in several areas of my yard and was impressed with how well it performed in areas that were moist and soft. It turned the ground over and did a nice job. As far as its performance in the dryer areas, that's a different story. I had to press down hard to get it to bite into the ground. Even though it did break up some of the dirt it really didn't want to dig in. This isn't made for that type of work. I had to go back to my old way of using a shovel to break the ground loose. Overall, for use in a flower bed or small garden this will work great. If you're wanting to break dry hard ground than this is not the tool for you.

Good product, not for breaking ground.

This review is for Sun Joe 24V-X2-TLR14 48-Volt iON+ Cordless Garden Tiller/Cultivator Kit | W/ 2 x 2.0-Ah Batteries and Charger. The machine is very light weight for a tiller, almost too light weight as it will “bounce” off hard patches from time to time. I used the sun joe tiller to break ground on a new garden space and to re-till an old space. It worked well on the previously tilled space (roughly 3 years previous), but could not break ground on the new garden space. This is not a matter of function, but the light weight of machine. The solution was to use a shovel to pierce the fully established grass prior to tilling. The 2.0Ah batteries that came with the machine last roughly 30-45 minutes of constant running. I also purchased the larger 6.0Ah batteries pictured which provided 90-120 minutes of constant running. I can safely say I have beat the sun joe tiller into submission and it has been very durable, EVEN when breaking ground.

Easy to put together

I purchased this tiller because I am a 73 year old widow I have a gas tiller but I am no longer able to pull the crank rope strong enough but I love my home grown vegetables. This little tiller is light weight but powerful enough to till up the ground. Best tiller I have ever owned.

Really good for what it is

It's not really a tiller per se, more cultivator, or at least somewhere in the middle. It will not break ground, it can't cut sod, far too light and not sharp enough. I tried to see if with enough time it could get through virgin sod but it just couldn't in any reasonable time frame. But for broken ground it does a great job. Tills plenty deep for any gardening, busts up dense hard packed soil at depth that's full of rocks. Battery lasts impressively long and charges impressively fast, and I'm comparing to Ryobi 40v tools. Maybe it helps that there are two instead of all being in one, no idea, just impressed. Can easily till an established 900 sq ft garden (with paths between rows not being tilled) on one charge. Handles VERY well given the wide grip, that's the best part of the thing really. The wheels that flip back so you can till full depth without needing to push it down is great. Only issue I have is the power button sticks so it won't always turn off when you release which is a hazard, maybe mine has a defect. Have to wiggle it to get it to pop and shut off. So, can't break ground, but after that it's exactly what I needed.

Worked out perfectly along the fence!

Wasn't sure it could handle digging up sod and clay after reading some of the reviews but it handled it wonderfully. Worked the area slowly and kept a shovel handy for some of the more stubborn sod and possible rocks. It was able to work up the hardened clay so I can eventually enrich the soil before next spring. Longer roots do get tangled in the blades just like hair strands in the vacuum cleaner rollers but are easily removed with a pocket knife. For 140 ft of soil (2 ft wide) down the fence line I had to charge the battery only once and it charged within an hour. I'm a senior and small in stature but this garden tool was amazingly lightweight and much easier to work with than many of my other battery operated garden tools I work with. Great price and I highly recommend!

Does what I was needing it to do, nice little tiller

Arrived on time and in good shape,pretty easy to assemble. I needed it to till my raised beds. It took a little work, beds were more solid than I thought but it tore it up, thanks

Good Product, Bad Support.

I bought this cultivator for my Wife's Birthday as she loves her garden. The product is great. Well made, sturdy but light to use. Very effective in the garden for keeping the soil open and friable. The supplied battery lasts for about an hour and there is a supplied battery charger. (You will need a US adapter for the 2 pin plug). The down side is, if you want spare parts, ie Battery, Blade etc. Forget it. They are available in the US but they are not able to ship to the UK. Amazon UK does list the spare battery but it is listed as "Out Of Stock"!! The US Sunjoe site list it as "Discontinued"!! A bit odd selling a product but not supporting it? Is this sharp practice or lack of a Trade Deal? Come on Amazon, give us a break. Please publish this review as it is fully truthful.

Easy and pleasant to handle.

If your soil is easy to cultivate use a manual hoe. This device is no weeder. Anything long wraps round the spindle and is tedious to unravel. Damp soil clings to and builds up on the guard and blade requiring constant cleaning. However, if your soil is hard, dry, reasonably weedless, space restricted and back breaking to hoe, this attractive device is for you. It will easily hoe to a 3” depth but is no speed machine. Rotation is slow enough to not overly damage the blade by hitting stones.

It does the job, but it's uncomfortable to use over prolonged sessions.

When It comes to weeding, it does the job pretty well. But I found that my thumb starts to hurt when I operate it for more than 5-10 min, it has something to do with the location of the handle, the trigger button, and the safety button. Also, for big guys, it's a bit short, I needed to lean down, so it wasn't good for my back. I would've appreciated a little bit more flexibility with the size of the extension. But, again, in general, for weeding it does the job, so if you are okay with a little bit of discomfort then its a good buy.

Excellent

It is great for gardens and light cultivating needs. It went together easily. It does what I want which is to turn over the soil in a neglected flower garden. I thought it wouldn't have any bite but it does. Saves my aging body from some of the heavier digging and bending over.

Disappointing

If your area is free of ANY vegetation then it's fine to scrape the surface. Otherwise, don't spend your money I believe the turning speed is too fast and it just bounces on the ground. You have to apply significant pressure to get it to dig in. Possibly two or three blades instead of just one might do the trick. Slower speed and remove the guard as any vegetation gets spun into the center core causing a tangle. It's now another useless tool in the shed.
