Excellent starter

I thought buying a mandolin would be simple. It wasn't. After scrolling through reviews on many different sites, I gave up. Saw this one and was thrilled. The catch container is a must. Most $150 versions didn't have this feature. It allows you to easily slide the handle without struggling to support the mandolin while applying pressure. It catches your slicings in a clean container. $150 models just let the slicings go all over. Very safe for your hands and fingers.

VERY SHARP

I HAVE THOROUGHLY ENJOYED MY MANDOLINE, BUT BEWARE OF HOW SHARP IT REALLY IS. ON MY 1ST TRY AT SLICING POTATOES FOR SCALLOPS I MANAGED TO CUT A BIG CHUNK OUT OF MY THUMB. OTHER THAN THAT I LOVE IT.

This mandoline works very well, all the parts have a snug fit. My only complaint is that the handle doesn't fit in the bowl for storage.

Be warned it is dangerous!

I will say it works well to cut veggies. I have only used the plain blade. I had a little difficulty getting it together but it's fine once you get it. I need to warn you it can slice through your nail quite easily. I've lost feeling in two fingers so far. I think it needs a safer design. I sliced my finger just brushing it putting it away. I would suggest it have a completely covered design where the whole cover moves as you slice, so the blade is never exposed.

Only 1 thickness option

Overall it was worth what I paid for, I really like Starfrit products, my 2 disappointments is the bottom compartment when the product goes into is not that big and you need to empty it after slicing a few mushrooms, as well you can't adjust the thickness, so if you are trying to slice zucchini to roll it up for a recipe, this is to thick to do so.

Decent tool

This thing is sharp, just ask my wife's finger! It's good if you have use for it, we've only used it a couple times. For a bigger family I can see it being more useful or if you have to dice or Julien a large amount of food. For just two people I think its almost easier using the cutting board. The prep and clean up takes some time.
