It's a really nice shower head, but please...

Some of the four and five star reviews of this shower head are just a little over the top. Yes it is very high quality, and it feels like it weighs 5 lb because it's solid brass, and I don't regret the purchase at all, and think it's probably worth the money, but I honestly don't think it's changed my life. It does look really nice in my bathroom though, and the adjustable spray feature is very welcome.

This unit is a great replacement to my old shower head. The weight of it was a surprise, heavy, solid, excellent quality. I removed the water saver filter, which took a little time but now it’s perfect.

Is it strange to call a shower head beautiful?

This is one beautiful shower head. Is that a weird thing to say? This items is well designed, and the use of quality materials is apparent. We purchased the polished brass, and it is a nice mellow brass color. (If anyone else has polished brass in your bathroom, you will know that sometimes the color can look like a cheap, gold costume jewelry color. Not the Speakman). My husband thought I was silly to spend this much on a shower head until we took it out of the box. It must weigh over 5 pounds, and it is a work of art. It was very easy to install - Speakman even provided Teflon tape which you will need. We already have fairly good water pressure here in Metro Detroit, so I cannot tell you if this increases pressure that much. I do think Speakman is exaggerating on the 48 sprays, however. To achieve 48 sprays, they must be counting every tiny, minute variation between the 4 major sprays which are a hard spray, a soft spray, a drench spray, and rainfall/light drench spray. I have thick, long hair, and the drench spray easily removes shampoo and conditioner from my hair. The shower spray is definitely "wide" enough for our small shower, and they is no irritating "hole" in the middle of the spray (e.g., some shower heads will spray you on the sides, but it will be missing any water in the center of the spray. So, your head is in a "hole" within the spray, completely dry, while your arms and shoulder get wet). My only complaint about this shower head is that it is hard to move or swivel. When we took it out of the box, you could not rotate or swivel the head at all. Once you install the shower head on your shower arm and run hot water, the head will move/swivel, but it takes two hands and a slow steady movement. When I move the head, I put one hand on the shower arm to support it, and move the shower head slowly with the other hand. I put some silicone plumber's grease on the rotational ball, and this has greatly improved movement. Our previous shower head could easily whip around, but this one is definitely a slow mover. I am slightly concerned that trying to repeatedly move this tight head might cause a crack or leak in the shower arm/the shower pipe within the wall. What you really need to do is the get head in one position, and then use the various shower streams to adjust how the water hits you. That takes a little getting used to because it is my habit to simply move the shower head. My husband feels that I was more likely to cause a cracked pipe by whipping a loose shower head around rather than the slow movement of this one. Fingers crossed, we will never know. Overall, I highly recommend this item, but I do hope that as the shower head "breaks in," it will get easier to swivel.

Great fully adjustable shower head!

Having a house with lower pressure well water, we really like the forceful stream that the Speakman anystream creates. (I remove the regulators). After remodeling my shower, I wanted a new one to replace my old anystream. I don’t understand why this is labeled as 3-setting, it is just fully adjustable. And this model looks great!

Nice quality; already has a flaw in one of the outflows

I replaced (rather my plumber did) both the master and guest bath. My plumber could not find the flow restrictor to remove, which I found odd & so I deal with the flow, which is pretty ok, however, I also use it combined with my handheld, which in itself reduces the flow. For the price, I should not already, after ~5 months of use, one flow of 8 that goes off and on slightly. The entire shower head flow also backs off & on by ~90%; ive tested it w the hand held off & it still does this so I don’t know if it’s the dual attachment causing this or a flaw in the head. I’ll check the guest, I suppose. Aside from this, it is a very attractive in both brass (gold) and polished chrome and the ability to change the flow is nice, tho I keep it constant in my master bath. I suppose for guests, they will appreciate this feature. I find it difficult to adjust the height, however. Mostly these are very attractive and fit very nice in my home decor. My niece used my shower & said I had great water pressure ; she used it both with & without the handheld. So, apparently, removing the flow restrictor is not always necessary & I also find my pressure is ok tho I personally feel without the handheld it is rather week so I wish my plumber would have known where to remove the restrictor.

High end shower head at a bargain price

Looks and feels much more expensive. Remove the black bold letters and it will look like a $500 shower head.

elegantly simple and functional

May '22, update: The original showerhead sort of died after 4+ years. I noticed that particles of (I guess) calcium had built up in the jets. I was unsuccessful at finding a good solution. Therefore decided to replace it. That being said, I replaced it with the same head, but different finish. As speedy as it was, it was just that good of a product. And on a separate note, this head includes an adapter to fit a 3/4" flange - most shower heads are 1/2". Not a downside; just a comment. Feb '18: The Speakman shower heads are simple in design and solidly built. There are different versions of 3 basic style: 5 sprayer; 6 sprayer and 8 sprayer. The 6 and 8 are all brass construction; the 5 may be partially ABS. All function similarly with a full rotation lever that simply raises or lowers the water ports. The resulting 3 sprays range between coarse and fine, with the mid-range being best described as medium. Given the continuous lever motion, it is not clear why there is not greater variability. I guess that is part of the mechanical design. By rainshower head standards, these are small heads - just 3-4" diameter (depending on version). However, spray is still very nice and pleasant. One negative - the metal body can get hot from the water flow. Grabbing the head to adjust position during use may lead to an uncomfortable surprise. Perhaps a rubber trim band could be added in order reduce risk of an unpleasant surprise. At the least, a warning tag should be attached to the shower head. But this aside, the form and function still make this a 5-star item!

Adjustable to just right

I bought this shower head to replace an American Standard head that was never very good at spraying but very good at dripping. What an improvement!! I used a wrench to remove to the old head and removed the old Teflon tape. Then I wrapped the (included) Teflon tape onto the shower arm, and screwed on and tightened this head. I don't think it took even 10 minutes. Now the water jets are strong and even with no water being wasted running down the side of the head. I couldn't be happier with it. I can adjust the angle of the head and by using the lever change the shower pattern and pressure. The colour isn't a perfect match with the American Standard valve, diverter and shower arm but it's close enough that you won't notice unless you're looking for it. The American Standard bright brass is more yellowy and this ever so slightly pale by comparison. It works well and it looks great.
