Jury Still Out on the Resulting Finish Smoothness

I am not sure if the difficulty I had in getting a smooth bubble free coating of varnish was due to the varnish or the brush. I was refinishing my mahogany door with Interlux Schooner Gold which is a very thick varnish. I tried various techniques and still could not keep the bubbles out of the coating. So I used steel wool between the coatings. The best coating I achieved was on the 5th and final coating; when I diluted the varnish 50% with mineral spirits and used a foam brush; not the Purdy. The Purdy Syntox brush looks and feels like it should be a good brush but it did not work well using Interlux Schooner Gold varnish. I will update this review when I use the brush with a different varnish or paint.

Great brush, fast shipping. A quality paint brush can make all the difference in how your project looks. These brushes are definitely my favorite.

Great brush for a great finish!!

This brush has helped me put a great polyurethane finish on multiple projects over the past couple months. I have had almost no problem with bristles coming loose and have used mineral spirits to clean it after each use. Then I clean it with warm soapy water and rinse. Would definitely purchase again!

No visible brush strokes!

I used this brush to paint a vanity and kitchen cabinets with a special cabinet enamel paint. Purdy Syntox brushes leave no visible brush strokes which makes all the difference in the finished product. I just wish I could buy a smaller version 1" or 1.5" for the small detail areas!

Very good brush!

I bought this brush to varnish my handmade guitars in a water based finish. It works extremely well, giving me a wonderfully smooth surface, requiring minimal final sanding and buffing. The reason for rating it with only 4 stars is that I would have preferred a 1 1/2" brush, which unfortunately is not available in this range. Also, the brush seems to lose some of its shape after washing it a few times, even though I followed the instructions to the T.

Best brush for painting Cabinets

My cousin paints professionally and recommended this brush for painting my kitchen cabinets. I must say this is a great brush for the task. It is super soft if you can get used to that and works great with Benjamin Moore Advance and Sherwin-Williams Pro Classic Allkyd paints leaving no brush marks!

Purdy Syntox finish brushes from Amazon

Having read an article on finishing in "Fine Woodworking" magazine I decided on the Purdy Syntox Brush. I do a lot of fairly large projects and am not set up for spraying finish unless it's from a can. My last project was a large Redwood slab table and spraying was out of the question. I've never been really good with a brush, but Purdy helped me solve this. Both brushes I purchased provided a smooth even finish that I think is close to flawless. I would recommend these brushes to anyone. They do require proper care when you're finished with them.

Smaller and thinner than you might expect

Compared to other Purdy and Hamilton Perfection brushes this brush is small, thin and lightweight. Well made delivering a fine finish with suitable materials. Quite expensive but if it lasts a long time will be value for money.

Quality quality brush for varnish

Varnished an oak kitchen island, had heard of Purdy is expensive. However if you need a quality finish use this. Washed well will last a lifetime. Not a loose bristle is sight and smoothest finish I could want.

A proper brush

Bought this for varnishing a boat. Expensive but a very high quality brush which if cleaned properly and put back in its sleeve should last many years
