Nice jacket, but short lived.
Overall this is a pretty decent welding jacket. Out of the box I was impressed with the style and stitching. The liner in the shoulder area is a plus. I rarely use a pocket in my welding jackets, so placement is not an issue. Problems I have had include breaking the posts on three of the snaps in less than a month. I had anticipated this problem and had ordered extra at the same time. Even with lubrication, the snaps were so tight they would not come apart. The replacements are much better. I used Dritz Heavy Duty Mighty Snaps sold elsewhere on Amazon. Also the stitching is letting loose on the left arm along with a tear forming next to seam on the same arm. The leather seems to be weak in that area. I have seen this in leather welding gloves occasionally. I will have to glue a patch over this area and resew the sleeve. The fit and freedom of movement is good, so I will get another when this one is wore out. Update: (8/19/2014) The welding jacket wore out in the left sleeve area. I usually get a full year out of my welding jackets. This one lasted only three months. I was going to try another one, but the price has increased and I can get one that I know will last for less. I have removed a star for the failure of the leather.

heat resistant heavy duty
great for out of position like OH/4G/4F super heavy duty. if you are doing light diy shop work/flat position. I would recommend getting flame retardant cotton jacket. this jacket is overkill for that and its not very breathable. But if you need a lot of protection for out of position (especially flux core/SMAW) I recommend this jacket its nearly 1/8" solid leather all over.

Weak rivets and sewing, but cheap!
Purchased as a warehouse deals item (which means it was returned) so I didn't expect perfection. It appeared to have been unused, but already one of the rivet fasteners on one sleeve was pulled out, and the seam underneath was starting to come unsewn. Many reviews of this jacket here and elsewhere complain about the buttons pulling through, so I was not surprised by this. As a home/hobby infrequent user, I'm willing to deal/repair stuff like this for a jacket that is cheaper than every other new leather welding jacket I've found. The overall quality is lower than I would expect from the Hobart brand -- but rather is similar quality and price to HF. I usually wear large tall jacket. This is a bit shorter than I would expect for an XL, and slimmer as well. I read a lot of reviews trying to learn sizing, and I wouldn't hesitate to order this 1 size larger than your regular size, especially given the weak sewing/buttons/rivets.

Hobart 770486 Leather Welding Jacket - Size RUNS SMALL
I would like to thank the other customers who said this item RUNS SMALL. I listened and bought the next size up, an XL. I am a large and with an undershirt, a medium knit shirt and a heavy flannel shirt this jacket fits snugly. Taking off the flannel shirt the fit was perfect. If you need to use this in very cold weather conditions you may need to go UP two sizes. Leather does have some stretch and in time it may loosen a bit. It is a little bunchy under the arms but that will soften in time as well. The snaps are stiff but should also work in. Some others had snap failures but it is not a big deal to replace them if needed. This jacket seems like a fair value.

The quality seems good the leather is quite heavy
The quality seems good the leather is quite heavy. The position of the snaps is a bit strange, around the wrists if the snaps are done up they are very baggy. Around the neck the snaps are quite tight, even on an XL which is huge on me the closure around the neck when the snaps are done up is very tight. I will probably have to redo the snaps, apart from this its not too bad. In terms of sizing I should have gone an L since I am usually a medium. But it works the same.

No more dancing under equipment as my skin is burning
Had a "fire resistant" jacket before and on the farm welding standing up is often not a option, welding under a bulldozer is a experience of man vs molten metal. I weld my share of items with a 110, 220 single and a 220 3 phase welder and this jacket was reasonable price and I suspect I can retire my hole ridden sweatshirt that was burned thru due to the old welding jacket not keeping molten metal from burning thru and plastering me with splatter. I was worried about it being hard to move around but that wasn't the case. I don't have experience with some of the more expensive jackets but for all hobby/farm use I would saw w/o a question this should fit the bill.

Nice Jacket
Got the jacket, its nice leather (Suede-ish finish) about 5mm or 1/8" thick, has snaps on the wrist to open/close, works well. I'm 6' 3" and arms where a little short (switched it for the XXL) but good deal, my only warning is that Hobart does *slightly* change style between batches, and the coat may not exactly match the picture (didn't have front pockets, but it did have a pocket inside, and was slightly lighter color) but it's a welding jacket, its for protection not style, and your gonna burn it anyway, so live it up

Best jacket for the money!
I bought this for use in a college welding class. It has held up to the sparks and spatter of Stick and Oxy-acetylene welding. The only problem I had was one of the small rivets(The less important wrist one) had popped off when I got it caught on something. The jackets wrist piece is still together and works perfectly. After shopping around for a while this was clearly the best deal.

Good leather, cheap buttons
Only been welding with this over my coveralls for about 2 weeks , destroyed almost all of the buttons if I didn’t treat them like they were made out of glass. I highly recommend NOT buying this as it will only last you as long as the buttons do. Hobart, time to upgrade your quality. I mean sure $100 wouldn’t miss it but now looking for another one, i would never buy again
