Easy Set Up...Really!

I have always wanted the convenance of a Smart light, but I've had issues setting them up! I love these GE Smart LED bulbs! Why? Well, let me explain: SET-UP - I am always having to go through a process of trial and error to get lights to connect and work with Alexa. But these bulbs the set up on these was super easy, really...and on the first attempt! Well, technically the second. You seem the instructions specifying that all you do is screw it in and Alex discovers the device, this is just plain false, at least that has been my experience. I have NEVER been able to 'discover' a Wi-Fi light simply by screwing it in. EVER. I have always had to download the App first. This GE light was no exception. I simply downloaded the CYNC App first, then it became discoverable within the Alexa App. on my phone. I will say, the CYNC App is much nicer than any other I have experienced. Set-up and using the App is very intuitive. Again, much smoother than any other Smart light I have had. Yes, the cost is higher than others, but it was worth the extra expense! Hands down! MOVING THE BULB - Another plus I inadvertently discovered was how easy it was to move my bulb from room to room. I simply unscrewed the bulb from the living room table lamp, screwed it in the Family room couch floor lamp, then changed the name in the CYNC App., assigned it to the correct "room"...and WHALA! The name changed in the Alexa App and voice command worked! STYLE - The "Edison" filament is definitely cool. This is the reason I bought these bulbs. You see I have a throw-back floor lamp with the bulb exposed and I was replacing a standard Edison bulb. This one looks legit! NO FLICKERING - Even at 1% setting the bulb stays steady with 0 flickering! Awesome! PROGRAMABILITY & REMOTE CONTROL - We left for the weekend, so I opened the CYNC App from 250 miles way, set the light to go on at 6:30 pm and off at 8:00 am. I called my friend next door to see if it was on and... you guessed it. IT WORKED! He texted me the next day to say they turned off the next day. When we returned, I changed the setting to turn on at dawn and off at dusk and it's been working as well. COLORS & SCENES - Yep, they work, both through Alexa and the App. The colors look cool but frankly seem gimmicky. For the life of me I don't know why someone would want a blue or red light. I will play with this at some point. I did set up a scene for "TV watching", "Date night", and "Reading" within the CYNC App and Alexa recognizes them. I will confess these benefits were not what attracted me to the bulb. CONNECTIVITY - It's been a week of usage and so far, so good. I have had no issues. I will report back if I suffer connectivity issues down the road. I will say that I think the biggest cause for drop off in the past is forgetting to use the voice command and reverting to flipping the light switch to turn the light off. To prevent this, I changed the lights to another electrical socket not controlled by the light switch. CONS - So, what DON'T I like about the bulbs? Well, they could be brighter. I will confess I still cannot figure out how to gauge brightness levels with "Lumens". It seems that conversion to "Watts", (which is my point of reference) is not simple because brightness level varies by bulb type and manufacturer. I have been trying to find a 100-watt equivalent GE CYNC bulb to place in the floor lamp next to my reading chair but so far have had no success. RECOMMEND? - yeah, definitely. I had been looking for some time for easy to install, truly Alexa compatible Smart lights and, regardless of the number of stars, struck out each time. I hope this review helps you in your decision making.

Fun dimming, color changing, and unique looking LED

I bought these to replace the incandescent filament/Edison style bulbs over my kitchen island. The LED "filament" that it has was weird to me at first, but I came to really like the unique look, and it has a kinda cool effect, especially when you use different colors. It was a little bit tricky at first when I wanted to mimic the light from my old bulbs, but once I got the settings right I love it! I love being able to brighten or dim them easily, and I have set up some Google Assistant routines to help change the vibe of the kitchen quickly (and with voice control if I want). Pardon the dirty globes; I need to wash them again.

I’d 4 1/2 just for the software issues

Fantastic lights, love the look, brightness, and color changing effects. The light shows are great as well. My only gripe about them is the app. I have had issues setting up lights, the software seems to have a few bugs. But so far there haven’t been problems that I couldn’t solve eventually. I expect to buy more in the future.

Nice but imperfect smart lights

These lights are okay. They look good, I can schedule when they turn on and the color is fully adjustable. However, for the price and the expected functionality for a smart light they leave a lot to be desired. The quality of the light produced is very good. The colors are nice. They are very bright at their highest setting but also dim extremely well to low light levels. You can set the lights up using the Google home app but you will have limited functionality. The Home app allows for a limited set of colors to select from and a brightness adjustment. That is all. If you want any more functionality than that, you have to download the GE app and setup an account there. With their app, you can create customized colors, use their scheduler and all sorts of other things. I like that I can set on and off times based on local sunrise and sundown time. I was annoyed by the need to add yet another app to my phone and create yet another account with yet another company. The GE app is not always intuitive. It allows creation of groups and schedules for groups. However, it's not nearly as robust as creating groups in Google Home app. It's a bit tedious to get it to work as desired especially when trying to create a group across different rooms. There are a number of pre-programed color settings. For instance for Christmas, there is an alternating red to green light. Seems neat at first. But if you have 4 or 5 bulbs, there is no coordination or syncing between the bulbs. Each bulb changes colors at a set interval but they are not at all in sync with each other. As best I can tell there isn't a way to get them to sync at all. That's really disappointing. The grouping is also very quirky. Once the holidays were over, I changed a group to use the preset candle effect. Unfortunately, when they come on, one of them always uses the Holiday effect. So 4 are candle and 1 is alternating green and red. It makes no sense and after days of messing with it, I haven't been able to make it work correctly. The lights do not support 5G wifi which might be important to some. Finally, the color representation is sometimes way off. For example, I might select a yellow-green color but bulb will emit a red-orange color. This only seems to affect some colors and I am not sure why. Overall, the lights are okay but the software supporting them is poor. I am currently using 5 bulbs. If I had known I would need to add a new app and setup a new account for most features, I would have looked at other options. The GE app could be more user friendly, is unreliable and quirky. I am really disappointed at the lack of ability to get the lights to sync with each other. I can't recommend these given the state of the software that makes them work, especially considering the price.

Overall great color spectrum and brightness

These bulbs are great overall. I use them in the embedded light sockets in my head board to have a configurable light set for reading at night. The only miss for me is that I do wish they could get just a smidge dimmer on their lowest setting, but overall I'm happy with them.

I ordered 2 boxes and one of em was re-packaged with a different set of generic non wifi LED bulbs. Maybe returned items shouldn't be resent to others? Even the sticker on the box was obviously tempered with. Paid a lot for em.. now I'm stuck with this. Very unhappy.
