Happy to see another new Enchantimals set with charming details. I pre-ordered each of the new sets as soon as I saw their listings first appear on Amazon. Glad I did, because half of them are sold out already. The Accessories ---------- Nest of Eggs My favorite detail is the tiny hatching duck/chick. Only one of the three eggs opens. The one that opens has a tiny baby bird inside; the bird could be a chick or a duck, whichever you want to play that it is. The opening egg’s top piece fits perfectly onto the bottom of the shell and goes off and on easily. The two non-opening eggs are attached to the bottom shell, and the three eggs can be placed inside the nest. The nest doesn’t have a particular spot on the playset. It can be balanced on the crib or swing or table, but it doesn’t fit well, so we just have it on the floor. Crib The rocking crib has a removable mobile with a star, sun, moon, and cloud; the mobile really turns – not on its own, of course, but when you turn it with your finger. The crib is molded on both ends with three sunflowers, and the whole bed, minus the legs, are molded with wood grain details, even on the underside. The interior of the crib is smooth with no details. The crib is deeper than it needs to be for the little duck and sheep; maybe it’s deeper to hold the slightly larger animals that come with most Enchantimals dolls. The crib isn’t wide enough, though, for the bigger animals to lie down in it. Only the duck in this set can lie down flat in the crib; the sheep can lie down sideways. The duck and sheep can both fit in the crib together standing; their little heads just barely peek over the tall sides of the crib. The horse doesn’t fit in the crib at all, obviously. Swing The swing is molded with a wood design that makes it look like a hollowed-out half of a log. It also has a molded fringe detail along both long sides. The hanging pieces of the swing are molded to look like vines and are removable from the swing so the swing base can be used as a rocker. As with the crib, the duck can lie down flat and the sheep can lie down sideways. Both can fit in the swing together leaning slightly backwards; they look quite comfy in there! The swing hangs on a movable branch that attaches to the barn. The branch can turn 360°, so the swing can hang on any side of the barn or inside of it. The branch itself is molded with wood lines, vines, and flowers. The branch is removable from the barn. It attaches in either direction, and it can also attach to the notch on the other side of the barn, although that one is low to the ground with no room for the swing. Changing Table, Bottles, & Bib Attached to that lower notch, also removable, is a changing table. It’s molded with wood grain, a mat, teddy bear, and various toiletries. There’s also a circle indention that I think are supposed help the baby bottles stand on it, but the circle is a bit too small for the bottles. The bottles are white, orange, and purple and are molded with measuring lines; they have handles so the doll can hold them to feed the animals (or a baby, if there is ever a release of a doll Enchantimal that is a baby – wouldn’t that be cute!). There’s also a tiny bib that’s molded with a flower in the center and stitches on the edge to look like a bit of lace is attached, although it’s all plastic. The snap-on bib fits only on the duck, not on the sheep or horse. The front of the changing table is molded with a scalloped edge and flower details. The legs are smooth with no details. The attached chair is molded with dots on the back, and the inside is smooth. The piece that attaches to the barn is molded with branch details but is blue. The changing table attachment allows it to move front-side-back, but not inside of the barn because of the floor piece and the table leg length. The changing table can stand on its own when not attached to the barn. Barn The barn’s legs are molded to look like tree trunks with vines and flowers. It appears to be cut-down trees placed on wood-grain bases to make them into columns. The barn floor is also detailed with wood grain. The back is hollow. The top of the barn is made of two plastic pieces, a pink wood-grain molded piece snapped into the outer purple piece that’s detailed with a scallop-shingled roof. The face of the pink piece is molded with flower details, painted yellow and green, and a cut-out window, painted white. On top is a hole for the weather vane to snap in. I don’t know if I like the weather vane, so I haven’t attached it yet; it looks like once it’s in it might not be removable, so I’ve left it out for now. The weather vane has a rooster shape on top, and under that is an arrow inside of a circle. It’s a three-dimensional piece, the same on both sides. The Doll and Animals ---------- Horse Girl The first thing I noticed about the horse girl is how soft her hair is. The ponytail is tight. Her left ear has a yellow flower molded on. Her painted-on swimsuit is white; the painted overalls design is only on the front of the top. Both arms have a slight curve, and both palms are flat with fingers together and thumb out. As is customary with Enchatimals, the elbows are not articulated. The knees, however, are articulated, always a bonus with Enchantimals since not all of the dolls have articulated knees. She has a plastic dark brown horse tail that can turn slightly side to side. Her skirt is the standard material for Enchantimals skirts. It has a scalloped edge and a plaid design with fruit, flowers, and dots. The white daisy on the skirt is the same design as the daisy painted on the front of her overalls top. Under the skirt, as I mentioned above, is her painted-on white swimsuit bottom. Her shoes are a boot design with molded-on fringes, swirls, and sole lines. The boot backs are slit from the heel up to make dressing and undressing easy. Inside her boots she has tiny feet in a tip-toe stance (I prefer flat feet on dolls, but female Enchantimals dolls always have the high-heel shape feet), and her feet are molded with little toes. All painted parts (shirt, face, and ear flower) are well-painted. I do wish they’d paint the backs of the shirt, though, not only the Enchantimals dolls but also Chelsea/Kelly dolls and other dolls being made by Mattel and other companies these days; if they do have fabric clothes it seems that they’re always thin one-piece fabrics with details printed on rather than real clothes with real fabric details. I don’t like the new custom of painted-on clothes at all, but if toy companies are going to make their dolls have painted-on clothes instead of real clothes they should at least do the entire paint instead of only the part that’s visible in the package. Anyway, that’s not a problem exclusive to Enchantimals; it’s a trend that I hope ends soon. Duck, Sheep, and Horse Thankfully, there is no hole and clip on the back of any of these animals! Anyone who has read my Enchantimals reviews knows how I feel about the creepy holes and clips on the backs of most of the animals. It looks like the dolls have hollowed out taxidermied animals to use as purses, so creepy that you can see the emptiness inside the animals through the huge holes in their backs! The animals in this set have no holes or clips – woohoo! Also, they’re made of a sort of soft-feeling hard plastic, a bit softer than most of the Enchantimals animals, but not the softest. They’re all well-painted. The duck is the same as one of the ducks that come with the new duck girl doll release that I pre-ordered but didn’t receive yet. The duck has webbed feet and one outstretched wing. It has no articulation. It’s quite cute. I’ve been waiting for a duck release since I first saw an unused prototype a few years ago. This duck, and the new duck doll set, is not the same as that prototype. The prototype was a rainy-day design; I love rain, so I was hoping they’d release that one at some point.
